Historically accurate replica of a norhtern plains style split horn ermine bonnet of the indian wars era (c. 1870s) made by bill & kathy brewer fo greenville, il.
Split, bevelled and polished buffalo horns painted red on the reverse, decorated with red dyed horse hair, ermine fringe, wrapped seed beadwork over buckskin, magenta dyed silk ribbon and two hawk bells on each tip are attached to brain tanned buckskin cap with buffalo rawhide re-enforcements, both at base of the horns and inside the cap. The cap is covered with ermine fringes, soem from whole hides at sides and back, and has a row of black clipped rooster feathers (representing crow or raven) at crown.

Two quilled thongs go from crown of cap ot horn tips. Browband is beaded with old time color seed beads on yellow painted buckskin that is fringed along the top.

From base of each horn and at sides of bonnt are streamers of dyed sikl ribbon. Twenty four inch trailer of red wool trade cloth with white selvedge edge is attached to back of cap. Twenty four ermine tubes with red wool trade cloth firecrackers are attached along back of cap over trailer. Bonnet is given an oevrall aged appearance.
